Workouts for Women for Legs, Chest and Arms and Shoulders and Back?

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

HI there,
Just joined a gym and while I have been a member at one before I haven’t gone for awhile. I’m not able to pay the huge fees that personal trainers charge so I was hoping some of you could help. I’m looking for workouts for my legs, shoulders/back, chest and arms and abs. I don’t have a huge amount of weight to lose (say 10 pounds) just more so would like to firm up again and get back some definition! Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks everyone.

There are many exercises out there that you can do for each muscle group. Here’s a short list of exercises for the muscles that you have listed (I apologize for the list, just wanted to help as much as possible):

Legs (one for quads, hamstrings, and calves each):
- Dumbbell step ups - http://www.bodybuilding.com/exercises/detail/view/name/dumbbell-step-ups

Easy Steps to a Flatter Tummy

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

With the New Year just around the corner, many of us will be starting our brand new resolutions. One of the most popular of resolutions is quick weight loss, especially for those of us who have a bulging belly. Both men and women undergo intensive abdominal workout routines each and every day of hopes to see a flatter belly. However, the results are often slim to none. Numerous factors can be responsible for someoneâ??s lack of weight loss. Everything from a poor diet to stress can have a negative effect in our waistline.

Some of the best diet pills (such as the all natural hoodia gordonii) can help you attain weight loss, but following these few simple rules can make your results even better. One of the first rules in loosing belly weight is eliminating consumption of alcohol. Alcohol is known to raise cortisol levels which are responsible for sending fat to your belly. Therefore, if you are serious about tightening those abs than you should completely eliminate alcohol from your list of beverages. Not enough fiber consumption is yet another mistake that a lot of people make. Fiber is excellent for those individuals who wish to lose weight because it prevents constipation and it keeps you feeling full longer. An adequate intake of fiber should be between 25 and 38g. Some excellent sources include whole grains, fruit, and vegetables.

The last step towards a flatter tummy is getting your heart rate up. It truly does not matter how many ab exercises you do if you donâ??t get rid of the fat which is hiding your abdominal muscles. And the only way to do that is with aerobic exercise. You have to get your heart rate up anywhere from 45 to 60 minutes per day, four to five days a week. Following these few simple steps can help you attain the slim waistline you have always wanted.

Pilates Apparel That Speaks Your Language

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

There are a lot of great yoga/Pilates wear lines out there. But many of them seem to be designed with a yoga practitioner in mind first, the Pilates devotee second. Not so with RESE Pilates Activewear. The clothing lineâ??s founder, Gail Reisman, had practiced Pilates for many years before deciding to design clothing to help women focus on key areas important to Pilates.

Her circular yin-yang logo is placed at the core on her pants, reminding you to â??scoopâ? your abs. Seams on some of the tanks keep your ribcage in check. And a contrasting color band that goes around the hips of many of her pants helps you keep pelvis aligned. Many of the tanks are longer and a looser at the bottom than other brands, and the pants are supportiveâ??not tightâ??and come in enough styles that everyone can find a flattering fit. None of these extras will do your workout for you, but theyâ??re thoughtful touches that Pilates junkies can appreciate.

Of RESE Pilatesâ?? new looks for fall, the Pauline top ($60) is the most distinctiveâ??and versatile; it has fashion-forward ruching around the neckline and a loose, baby doll fit, but a hidden fitted layer underneath makes sure you stay covered in class. Also new are the Lola tank ($58), which features a high neckline for full support, and the Shannon ($98), a fitted jacket with cuffs that fold down into mitts to keep your hands warm as the weather turns cold. The Karen capri ($68) is a new top-selling pant, featuring tulip-shaped slits at the calves for comfort.

Some other popular items in the RESE Pilates line include the Natalie legging, the Carrie capri pant and the Gail and Dawn tanksâ??which are updated frequently with new, seasonal colors.

RESE Pilates is taking wholesale orders for the fall collection, or you can buy retail on resepilates.com, where youâ??ll also find a list of U.S. retailers.

how can i get firm, toned thighs and lower abs?

Friday, February 12th, 2010

i’ve recently lost 20lbs. my upper abs are toned and defined, but my problem areas, like every other woman, are my hips, thighs (particularly inner thighs), and lower abs. i do a lot of yoga, and run when i’m back home, but the air in afghanistan makes it nearly impossible to run here. i want a workout program to tone these problem areas.

If you’ve access to a weight room, lower body lifts will do the trick - squats, lunges, leg extensions & curls & abductors. No weights? Try doing squats & lunges without them.
Bicycling is great too. And on a stationery bike - do high resistance.

Question for women with abs! How did you get your abs?

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

I am already skinny and I am 88 pounds/ 5′1 and 14 years old but my stomach is like almost all soft haha. I don’t believe I need to lose weight to see my abs….correct me if I am wrong! But I need to gain muscle in the stomach area. I just want a tight hard stomach instead of a soft squishy one :P also any women that have abs… what exercises did you use to get them? I am currently doing both these workout videos 4 times a week… will this work( I have already done this for almost 1 week)? If so how long will it take?

Also share your success stories with me! Thanks!

Im 85 pound 5 ‘1 and 14 years old! I have abs and i really didn’t try. It may be because i play softball? We do wall sits, jog in place, bicycles (where you lay on the ground and petal like You would on a bike) , we run a lot and do suicides. Also we do a lot of jump rope exercises to. Like jump as high as you can for 1 min. how fast for one min. and so on but make sure you jump with both feet not one foot at a time. Also dont to regular push-ups do girl push ups they do the same thing but they are better for us.
If you have any questions about the exercises email me at Jericayh@yahoo.com

Is it harmful for girls to do abs workout?

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

hi the other day when i was doing crunches, one of my trainers told me that women should not go in for abdominal workout…is he right?? i have a lil flab on my tummy and m hell bent on losing it. what should i do??

That guy is an idiot. The abs need strength training no different than any other muscle in the body. A strong core is essential to help strengthen other body parts and aids in the prevention of injury while doing so. Training the abs will cause them to grow and strengthen. Lots of people see ab training as counter productive due to the fact that they force the overlying tissues and fat outward over the muscle thus making the midsection actually looking larger. The only way to counter this is by losing the fat that is located over the muscle thereby giving you "definition". One way of doing this is by tracking everything you eat. Unfortunately, weight loss in order to achieve definition has to almost be an "all in or out" mentality. Small preplanned meals (about 7-8) over the course of the day containing a high concentration of proteins such as chicken, talapia, tuna, salmon/ a moderate intake of good carbs such as oatmeal, sweet potatoes, brown rice with a minimal intake of fats will jump start your metabolism into burning the fat that your body already has. The less outside fat you provide to your body the more it wants to burn what you already have. Now I certainly have not given the complete version of what it takes to have ripped physique but, you can work off of this model and tweak it to your best interests. Also, don’t get discouraged at the length of time it takes to notice significant changes in your body. A good rule of thumb is 3 months.
